Several of us from Portsmouth Vineyard have started training as Street Pastors (and Prayer Pastors). We have a particular interest in helping vulnerable people to find a safer environment when their night out goes wrong. We expect to be out on the streets of Albert Road and Palmerston Road most Friday nights. Come and say hello if you see us.
At Portsmouth Vineyard LifeChurch we are passionate about what can be achieved when churches work together. In the past few months we have connected with Portsmouth Food Bank which provides food and practical support to families in crisis. Portsmouth Street Pastors visited our LifeGroup to discuss the work they do at weekends in Guildhall Walk, Palmerston Road and Albert Road. We have joined with other local churches in preparation for the start of Healing on the Streets (HOTS) in Southsea – which will give an opportunity for people to receive prayer for physical or emotional healing whilst they are out shopping in a high street location, and Jenny has joined the Stop the Traffik prayer group who are looking at practical ways to help the victims of Human Trafficking in Portsmouth and the surrounding areas. We are also planning to get involved in other community wide projects and look forward to updating you when those plans become more concrete.
This year’s Vineyard National Leader’s Conference was inspirational. Leaders from over one hundred Vineyard churches in the UK & Ireland were represented. We were reminded that there are now over fifteen hundred Vineyards around the globe. This year’s theme was ‘Send Us Out’ – a theme which really resonates with us at Portsmouth Vineyard LifeChurch. Speakers included John & Ellie Mumford, Robbie Dawkins from Chicago, Alan Scott from Northern Ireland, and Tope Koleoso from Jubilee Church in North London. The worship was a mix of modern contemporary praise music and intimate worship songs to Jesus – Pure Vineyard!
